Worked with Spencer White and Evan Kirk
Our objective was to design an emergency ventilator that was affordable for developing nations and quick to assemble. We achieved this by employing a self-inflating bag resuscitator (BVM) as the air pump and a linear actuator to compress the BVM. The major components of this design are manufactured with a 3D printer or laser cutter. To increase efficiency and longevity, we incorporated thrust bearings between the motor shaft and the compression mechanism. This addition reduces friction caused by the rotation of the linear actuator's lead screw as it rotates, protecting against wear on contact surfaces.
